Why do Novita labels include the markings DK and Aran?

Yarn weights are divided into different categories, for example 4 ply, DK, Aran, and Chunky. Yarns in one weight category should all produce more or less the same number of stitches per 10 cm, when using needles of a certain size.

On our labels, we nowadays also refer to these international conventions to indicate the weight of the yarn, in addition to recommended needle sizes. With this information at hand, it's easy to select a Novita yarn for your favourite knitting project!

DK weight yarn for needle size 4 means:

22 stitches = 10 cm

28 rows = 10 cm

Aran weight yarn for needle size 5 means:

18 stitches = 10 cm

24 rows= 10 cm
